Tax law in Bodrum
Individuals and businesses, including foreign property owners, can seek advice in English about tax audits, assessments, penalties and the tax aspects of a transaction in Turkey.
A tax review begins by identifying the measure, period and document involved. An audit letter, assessment, penalty or collection-stage notice may require a different assessment. Service information, previous applications, financial records and the intended transaction are considered together.
Audit and preparation of records
The scope of the authority’s information request, periods concerned and explanations already provided are examined. Returns, invoices, agreements, accounting and payment records are reviewed in connection with the accounting work. Questions requiring legal explanation are distinguished from accounting or technical calculations. Consistency between documents and missing records are checked.
Assessments, penalties and options
The basis of the measure, calculation items, reasons and service date are considered together. A correction request, settlement, court action or another procedure requires review of the scope and conditions applicable to the particular measure. The same option is not assumed to be available for every tax or penalty. The effect of choosing a route on other options and the payment position is also assessed.
Review before a transaction
A property sale, company transaction, investment or contractual change is considered through the parties’ position, transaction type and anticipated financial effects. Tax review involves more than inserting a clause in an agreement; records and applicable conditions are assessed with the relevant specialist input. Current rates, exemptions and monetary figures are checked at the time of the transaction.
Documents for the initial review
Audit and assessment letters, service records, reports, relevant returns, agreements and invoices, payment records, earlier applications and responses can assist the assessment. The date of receipt, any approaching step and existing advice from the accountant should be identified. Sensitive financial records are considered within the scope required for the review.
